[/ QUOTE ] I was gonna read thru this crap but since you REPEATED the same one twice in the first couple, I figured the rest were botched too.

I never said it was limited to the US. Some may repeat, I just did a quick google search was all. Many of those I know are in the US however. You guys need to read more than just what you want to read, I said since 1973 and back into 1700's in Europe. I guess I may have not made that clear, but like before the amount in which these have increased is in media coverage

You can even get your GED now courtesy of the state of Virginia now.
More of Virginia inmates get their GED's than any state in the US

colossal is probably a 15 year old with no clue. Well, maybe someone older with a 15 year-old view of things.

Again, we have all these problems because women work.

Yeah, I know that's a male chavenistic view-point, but in the 50's, 60's, and 70's , how many mothers worked outside the home? Most stayed home and reared the children, instilling in them values and morals and teaching them to cope.
If anyone thinks our culture is better now than it was in the 70's, they're delusional, in denial, or just plain ignorant of the truth.
They definitely need to take off those rose-colored glasses.

Guess what you were once allowed to beat your wife with a stick no larger than your thumb! Ever heard of the rule of thumb! Yeah, we need to have that reinstated as well, or maybe lets go back to the ecumenical council that once had a vote that decided if women were actually humans!!!

Barefoot and pregnant!!!!

Actually, I believe that law is still on the books in Scott County. The only thing is, you have to take her to the courthouse steps to whip her. Kinda annoying, aint it???

The only thing you really addressed was school shootings. I could certainly add to notsosilentbob's list:

1970s - No one locked their doors in the neighborhood. Didn't need to.

Now - All the locks you can find, plus sophisticated security alarms/devices, but it still doesn't deter the crook.

1970 - You opened the door for anyone going into a building the same time you were. It didn't matter if they were old, young, or one of your buddies: manners dictated that you just did.

Now - expect to get run over at any time when trying to get through a door to a business place. By and large, the only ones you see with any manners are those my age and older. You will encounter a younger one from time to time, but rest assured it was because their mom/dad wacked them if they didn't while they were growing up.

1970 - You were courteous to other drivers, even giving them the right-of-way when it wasn't called for. The litter stayed in your vehicle until you got home. The reason for that was because if mom/dad caught you so much as spitting your gum out the window, you got wacked.

Now - look around, its trashville no matter where you look.
"Road-rage" is a term never heard of or imagined in the 70s.

1970 - you see somebody hitch-hiking, you stop and give them a ride. 99.9% of the time it was one of the neighbor's kids.

Now - you can't take a chance on picking anyone up!

1970 - Trick-or-treat was a glorious adventure, with most of the goodies you collected homemade.

Now - take the candy to x-ray, and then it may still not be a good idea to eat it since it could be tainted with any number of drugs or even urine!

1970 - mail just about anything you wanted across the US and to most of the world.

Now - packages over 1 lb. with handwritten addresses and a large number of stamps are automatically labeled and set aside as "target" mail. The Postal Service must put it through an inspection process to be sure its not a terrorist bomb or anthrax threat.

1970 - You stopped whatever you were doing when the National Anthem played, put your hand over your heart, and paid homage to your heritage of freedom.

Now - I'd love to knock some people off the bleachers at ball games, and bust their kids arses for them. One generations' disrespect passes down to the next.

The problem now is not with taking paddling out of achools, or taking prayer out of schools. The problem is that they have been taken out of our homes. Herein is the jest of my comments about women working. Its not a coincidence that morals and behavior started to slip at the same time that 2 working-parent homes became the norm. Women arriving in the workpalce also signaled a steady increase in the amount of divorces in our country, so that what you had other than 2-working parent homes were many single-working parent homes.

Yeah, I can see why you think things are so much better now.

There's still time to change the road you're on."

The more I think about this, it's the "latch key kid" syndrome. And MTV, they should have shot Axl Rose on that network when he said "FTW" and a lot of this would have cured itself.

Actually, I can remember a scare when I used to live in Bristol back in the early 70's on Halloween...it came over the news advising parents to check their childrens' candy due to something malicious being done to some candy...can't remember exactly what, but I do remember it on the news with Merrill Moore.
